1499 California Sidewalk Project

This sidewalk sits directly above a historic basement that once housed the cable car stables, where horses pulled carts up and down California Street. Long since abandoned but now incorporated into the property, the area beneath had suffered from water intrusion due to a deteriorating sidewalk above. To ensure proper waterproofing and structural integrity, a complete reconstruction was required. Public safety remained the highest priority, necessitating close coordination among all key stakeholders—including the Department of Public Works, SF Technology, MTA, property ownership and their builders, structural engineers representing both the City and ownership, as well as the SF Water Department and Fire Department.
